Early 5 1/2 mile hike in the Superstition Wilderness

Details

This is one of my favorite hikes in the Superstition Wilderness. We will hike through canyons, alongside large bluffs, and through wide-open spaces. The scenery constantly changes.

I have completed this hike many times.

YOU MUST BRING ONE GALLON OF WATER.

THIS IS NOT AN EASY HIKE.

Speed: average
Length: 5 ½ miles

Elevation gain: 467 feet

We will meet at the First Water Trailhead Horse Lot just east of Lost Dutchman State Park.

Directions: The link below will get you there. Basic directions are to go past Lost Dutchman State Park a mile or so and take a right on First Water Rd. Follow this down a couple of miles, and you will see a large parking lot with bathrooms on the left. The whole lot is surrounded by a fence made of thick brown pipes. If you have gone to the end of the road you have gone too far.

The first half of the trail is small and has no name. The last half of the hike we will be on Hack Spring Trail and the Second Water Trail

Please bring a minimum of ONE GALLON OF WATER.

What to Bring: One gallon of water. Also bring the following: Snacks and sturdy boots. Please consider bringing hiking poles.
