Superstition Wilderness Hike
Details
## Details
## This is one of my favorite hikes in the Superstition Wilderness — a route full of canyons, towering bluffs, and wide-open desert scenery that changes constantly.
This is a relaxed hike and you will have time for photos and to enjoy the views, flora and fauna.
Details:
Hiking Time: About 3½ hours - please be flexible
Distance: 5½ miles
Elevation Gain: 467 feet
Speed: Average: Not too fast not too slow - relaxed.
Terrain: Typical of the Superstitions — occasionally rocky and uneven.
Water: Bring at least one quart more than you think you’ll need.
Access and Carpooling: A section of First Water Road is currently damaged by rain and not suitable for low-clearance vehicles. We will meet near the start of First Water Road, then carpool about two miles to the trailhead using high-clearance vehicles.
Directions:
From Highway 88 (Apache Trail), drive about one mile past Lost Dutchman State Park and turn right onto First Water Road. Go roughly 100 yards until you see a small pull-off area on the left — I’ll be standing next to my grey Mazda.
- Snacks or a light lunch
Sturdy boots - Hiking poles (recommended)
