Prescott – Last Minute Scheduling – Almosta Trail (Williamson Valley TH) – Moderate – Approx. 9 miles, 890 AEG
Date & Time: April 18, 2026 (Saturday) @ 9:00 a.m. Supposed to be sunny and probably between the 50s and low 70s during the hike.
Hike Overview: Just doing some easy stuff for a while. This one starts out Williamson Valley Road. There is a stream crossing and I’m hoping for wildflowers, but who knows. This is one of the access points if you’re interested in hiking all the way around Granite Mountain. https://www.alltrails.com/explore/custom-routes/custom-route-2e877f8?u=i&sh=yp9mav
Locations: Almosta Trailhead. Limited parking. No restroom. No water. https://maps.app.goo.gl/1jd8EywVTQrhgJsA8
Hike Details: Go to the Alltrails link for more info. Basically, we just head into the lands north of Granite Mountain, wander around a bit, then come back. More or less a kind of a lollipop. I imagine that this will be at a pace ≤ 3 mph.
Traveler Details: You will need to have sufficient water and nutrition with you. If coming from Phoenix, it’s about an hour and a half from the Carefree McDonald’s. There’s a convenience store (Old Stage Stop) at Williamson Valley and Outer Loop Road about 6 or so miles before the trailhead. Here’s a map link for that: https://maps.app.goo.gl/rW5CQqQRG5Xxa1vV8
