1. Automating AWS Account Setup with Backstage: A Practical Approach to Integrated Cloud Services
by Linda Mohamed, AWS Hero & 1. Vorsitzende @ Förderverein AWS Community DACH e.V. & Philipp Bergsmann, Managed OpenShift Black Belt @ Red Hat
What is the session about?
- This session addresses the challenge of manual AWS account creation, a bottleneck in cloud adoption. It introduces Backstage, an open-source platform for building developer portals, as a solution to automate the AWS account provisioning process. The approach uses a predefined GitHub repository template to initiate the account setup, equipping it with essential services and configurations. Attendees will learn how Backstage creates a new GitHub repository from a template, which includes an account blueprint and a pre-configured GitHub Actions pipeline for seamless deployment into the new AWS account. This automation allows organizations to focus on customizing and optimizing their cloud platforms, achieving higher platform maturity and operational excellence.
Who will present?
- Linda has been navigating the tech landscape for over a decade. She is specialized in Cloud Technologies, IT Process Optimization, and Agile Methodologies. When she is not guiding companies on their cloud journey, she is diving into AI/ML Services and Technologies, and sharing her insights at AWS community events and other tech platforms.
Beyond her professional commitments, Linda is an AWS Community Hero and deeply involved in Women in Tech initiatives, advocating for greater representation and inclusivity. In Vienna, she is the familiar face behind AWS meetups and other community gatherings, creating a welcoming space where every voice is valued and heard. In addition, Linda holds the title of Chairperson for the AWS Community DACH Support Association and is member of the Funding Advisory Board of netidee. - Philipp is part of the EMEA OpenShift Black Belt team at Red Hat, focusing on the managed cloud offerings. He has worked in the IT industry for about 20 years in various roles, from development to cloud infrastructure consulting. Over the last few years, Philipp has worked extensively on Kubernetes-related topics, planning and implementing Kubernetes platforms with various local and international companies.

2. How our serverless event driven architecture got us an short-notice appointment with the Route 53 team
by Richard Zimmermann, CTO Germany @ Nordcloud
What is the session about?
- While we chose a pattern that worked as expected for us, the same pattern proved challenging on the other side of the API. Expect to hear about our architecture, the lessons learned, the workaround we found, and the target architecture that we would choose today (if the workaround didn't work so well...)
Who will present?
- Since Richard Zimmermann started working with AWS in 2014, he can no longer imagine life without the Public Cloud. In 2017, he joined Nordcloud as a Cloud (Solution) Architect for enterprise customers and now serves as the CTO of Nordcloud Germany. Richard is passionate about technical challenges and is a big fan of the "You build it, you run it" philosophy.
