Claude Code Builds an AWS Project — What Actually Happens
Everyone's talking about AI coding agents. But what actually happens when you point one at a real AWS project and let it drive?
Date: Thursday, 16th April 2026
Time: 5:30pm
Venue: CORE Innovation Hub
Presenter: Rick Morgans | AWS UG Adelaide Organiser | CTO @ SuperSensory Technologies
Rick will walk through a project he built with Claude Code as his primary development tool: a semantic search and visualization system over 690,000 NIH research grants, running entirely on AWS services.
This isn't a polished marketing demo. It's the honest story — the decisions Claude made, the mistakes it caught (and the ones it didn't), and what the workflow actually feels like when an AI agent is writing your Terraform, your Lambda handlers, and your data pipelines.
What you'll see:
- How Claude Code drove the architecture: Bedrock embeddings, S3 Vectors, Lambda, API Gateway
- 690k scientific abstracts embedded, clustered, and visualized — searchable and explorable
- S3 Vectors as a managed vector database -no Pinecone, no pgvector, no self-hosted infra
- The real cost breakdown: ~$40 total build, ~$0.20/month to run
- Where Claude nailed it, where it hallucinated, and where a human still matters
- What this means for how we build on AWS going forward
Who this is for: Developers, architects, data engineers, or anyone curious about AI-assisted development beyond the hype.
No prior AI/ML experience needed. Come hungry, come curious. Gourmet pizzas (including vegetarian, vegan and gluten free options) and drinks provided free of charge thanks to our amazing sponsors :-)
See you all there!
