Step Functions Gone Wild: Lessons from an Event-Driven Biodiversity Platform
Details
In this session, Ali Lynton tells the unvarnished story of what really happens when you go all-in on serverless. Nature IQ, CSIRO’s biodiversity platform, promised clean, event-driven elegance. What it delivered was throttles, runaway concurrency, and more than one Lambda-induced nervous breakdown.
Ali will share the “final” architecture. Step Functions, Lambda, DynamoDB, and S3 all (mostly) playing nicely together, along with the scars that got it there. Expect hard-won lessons on orchestration, pre-computation, and multi-tenant design, plus a candid look at what happens when serverless doesn’t stick to the script.
Drinks and pizza from 5.30pm for a 6.00pm start.
Our sincere thanks to sponsors JourneyOne, Mantel Group, KZN, Akkodis, Versent, and AWS.
