Celebrate the AT at 100! CT Hike #7: Falls Village to Salisbury (Rt. 44)

Description: Continuing a serie s of mostly moderate hikes covering all of the CT AT (sections averaging 5-8 miles each), this approx. 6.5-7 mile hike (avg. pace 1.8-2 mph) begins at the Great Falls (we will be skipping the section with road walks along Rt. 7, Warren Turnpike and Water St. for busy weekend traffic safety concerns). Th e AT heads northwest away from the Falls, ascending moderately to the summit of Prospect Mountain (1,461') The trail then becomes rolling through woodlands and along open meadow, passing Rand's View, Giant's Thumb on Raccoon Hill (1,285'), and Billy's View (1,120' ), onto the west shoulder of Barrak Matiff (Wetauwanchu Mt), and begins a steep descent on switchbacks with tree roots and a beautifully constructed wood staircase for steps. The grade gradually becomes moderate then gentler to a field and cars. Rain and/or extreme heat cancels; RAIN DATE: August 10. No dogs, please. Bring snacks and plenty of water. REGISTRATION WILL BE LIMITED due to small parking areas at both trailheads (car spotting is required.). Leader will provide more details and exact parking directions to registered hikers the day before the hike morning.
