Description: About 5.5+ miles on woodland trails at a moderate pace (about 2 mph). Registration requested. The route goes on terrain with some ups and downs (about 500 feet of elevation gain) down to Upper Guilford Lake, over to the Iron Stream cascade (hopefully not dried up) and along the bottom of the gorge. One steep but short scramble uphill out of the gorge. Very short road walk. Some possible muddy areas. Meet at New England Trail entrance on Rte. 80 at 8:45 am for prompt 9:00 am start. Steady Rain cancels. Bring water and a snack - two short snack breaks planned. Directions: From junction of Rtes. 139 (Great Hill Road) and Rte. 80 in North Branford center, travel east on Rte. 80 for about 5 miles to a parking area on the left. The lot is 1.9 miles East of the intersection of Rte. 80 with Rte. 77 in Guilford. You will see the oval blue trail sign. The parking area is just after Maple Hill Road on the opposite side of Rte. 80. If you come to Twin Bridge, you've gone too far. (Google maps Ref.: New England Trail 319 CT-80).
