Description: A moderate hike through Brooksvale Park into Naugatuck State Forest, climbing Mt. Sanford, then looping back to Brooksvale. About 8 miles. Includes a rocky steady up to the peak and some wet areas. Registration Required using the link above! We will hike at a briskly moderate pace of 2 - 2.5 mph . Meeting time 9:15 AM at Brooksvale Park (Brooksvale Avenue, Hamden) with a prompt 9:30 AM start. Wear hiking boots, bring snacks/lunch and water. Steady Rain or Snow/Hazardous Road conditions cancel.
I will post my AllTrails route within a week before the hike (I like to scout it again close to when I lead).
Meet at Brooksvale Park, 524 Brooksvale Ave, Hamden, CT 06518. DIrections: FROM THE NORTH I-91 S to route 15 S to exit 64 S. Turnpike Rd, Use left lane to keep left at the fork (follow signs to the Music Theater). Turn left onto S. Turnpike Rd, in half mile turn right onto Cook Hill Rd. About 3.5 miles turn left onto South Main St, in half mile turn right onto Mt. Sanford Rd, then in another half mile turn right on Brooksvale Ave. The park is on your right in a half mile. FROM THE SOUTH - take I-91 N to exit 10 (CT 40 N, Mt. Carmel). Follow the connector to the end, turning right onto Whitney Ave (route 10). In 3 miles turn left onto Brooksvale Ave. The park is on your left in about 1 mile.
