Description: Come celebrate 150 years of AMC with the AMC 150th Relay—a 1,500-mile journey from Virginia to Maine, with each leg contributing to a continuous route across the Northeast showcasing the diversity of AMC’s outdoor legacy.
This 6.5 hike (avg. pace 1.5-2 mph) over Bear Mtn. includes hiking a north-south section of the Appalachian Trail . Starting at Undermountain Rd. trailhead, we'll hike to the Paradise Lane trail that leads to the AT junction. Next we'll head south on the AT by climbing up the north side of Bear Mtn. to the summit (2316 ft), and then descend to the Undermountain Trail, which leads back to the parking lot.
Total elevation gain will be over 1500 feet, and while most of this hike is moderate, the climb up the north side of the mountain can be strenuous as it is steep and involves some significant rock scrambling. Please contact the hike leader before registering if you have any questions about the trail conditions.
The parking area where we will begin and end is off Route 41 on the west side of the road, about 3.5 miles north from Rte. 44 in Salisbury, CT. Parking is limited so carpooling is highly recommended. Wear sturdy hiking shoes/boots and bring plenty of water and snacks/lunch; poles are helpful with rocky, rooted trails and elevation changes. No dogs, please.
NOTE: There is very little if any cell coverage at this trailhead. Please check your driving directions ahead of time and consider traffic conditions for the morning . Hike leader will send out an email to all registered hikers the day before the hike with any additional relevant details concerning parking, weather, etc. Rain cancels. Hike leader will make a decision based on the forecast updated the afternoon before the hike.
