Description: All hikers must pre-register online. Meet at 9:45 for a prompt 10:00 start for this 5-mile, moderate hike with a steep section and a few scrambles. Most of the hike is on trails, but the final mile or so is on a quiet paved road that will probably be closed to vehicles. Weather permitting, we will have views from Castle Craig to Long Island and to Massachusetts. Because of the potential for ice, bringing spikes is mandatory. Poles are highly recommended. Hikers must carry water, a snack, personal medications and first-aid supplies. Wear appropriate hiking footwear with good traction: no sneakers. No dogs. Meet at 999 West Main Street, Meriden. Park in the large lot by the playground, at the rear of the park. A porta-potty of variable cleanliness is there. Rain or heavy snow cancels. A notice of cancelation will be sent to all registrants by 7 a.m. the day of the hike.
