Description: Our 20’s & 30’s Committee will be leading a hike on the Blue Trail at Old Furnace State Park in Killingly, CT 🥾🌲. This classic northeastern Connecticut route offers a rewarding mix of rugged woodland terrain, rocky ledges, and sweeping views. We’ll follow the blue‑blazed trail through quiet forest before making the steady climb up to the top of Old Furnace State Park. The ascent is short but steep in sections ⛰️, and the summit rewards hikers with a dramatic overlook of the surrounding hills and the valley below. After taking in the view, we’ll continue along the loop through peaceful pine stands and gentle rolling paths. The full outing is roughly 4 miles with about 489 ft of elevation gain , making it a moderate hike with a satisfying payoff at the viewpoint 🌄.
Participants must bring: Minimum 1 liter of water 💧 Snacks as needed 🍎 Weather‑appropriate layers 🧥 Sturdy hiking or walking shoes (water‑resistant recommended) & microspikes if conditions are snowy or icy ❄️
Parking: Free parking is available at the Old Furnace State Park lot 🚗.
Social: After the hike, if there’s interest, we’ll head over to either Emerald Buddha or New York Pizza Company in Danielson (both about a 5‑minute drive) 🍽️. Emerald Buddha offers flavorful Thai & African cuisine in a cozy setting, while New York Pizza Company is a great casual option for classic slices and comfort food — perfect choices for warming up and relaxing after the climb.
