Description: Join the Connecticut Appalachian Mountain Club's 20’ & 30's community for an evening hike around the Beacon Hill Preserve in Branford! The hike will include views of the Farm River and surrounding tidal marshes, remains of quarrying operations, and a scenic overlook from the hill.
Difficulty level: Expect about 2.25 to 2.5 miles of hiking. The majority of the terrain is relatively gentle, but there are some rocky sections near the quarry building foundation and we go over a 135 foot hill. Depending on group speed and how long we stop at viewpoints, it will likely take us 1.25 to 2 hours.
The plan: We will start at the parking lot off of Rose Hill Rd and make our way down the Blue & Yellow trail to the quarry building foundation. Next we will follow the Branford Trail to the trolley bridge and then we will head up to the Beacon Hill Overlook and do the Orange Loop Trail. The trail map can be found here: https://scrcog.org/wp-content/uploads/2023/11/Beacon-Hill-Preserve-Farm-River-Preserves.pdf
Directions: The parking lot is located at the ends / junctions of Rose Hill Road and Pent Road in Branford, CT. It is slightly past 94 Rose Hill Rd, on the right. Coordinates: 41.27, -72.8546.
Packing list: Footwear and water for up to 2 hours and 2.5 miles on the trail. Snacks as needed.
The hike is geared towards those in their 20's & 30's. An email out 1-3 days before with the weather and any other notes. We will reschedule if there is rain.
