Description: Bluff Head - a Guilford classic! Join AMC CT 20s & 30s for an approximately 4.25-4.5 mile loop over Bluff Head, a series of rocky ledges on the northeast side of Totoket Mountain, with views as far as Hartford on a clear day. The plan is to stop and enjoy lunch at the highest viewpoint, a little over a mile in, so make sure to pack some trail food. Afterwards, we'll do a long loop down to and around Myer Huber Pond to extend the hike to about 4.5 miles.
Difficulty level: 4.5 miles of hiking and a 500 foot increase in elevation. A little shorter and easier than some of our other weekend hikes, but still some good exercise
Feel free to just come along and enjoy the journey, but if you want to know the hike route: Trail map https://guilfordlandtrust.org/wp-content/uploads/maps/Northwoods.jpg (we will go clockwise, New England Trail over Bluff Head > North Slope Connector > Lone Pine Trail > Meyerhuber Connector)
Directions: The start is at a nice sizable dirt parking lot on Route 77 / Durham Rd, a quarter mile north of the junction with Great Hill Rd. It's in Google Maps as "Bluff Head Trailhead."
Packing list: Footwear and ample water for 4.5 miles / several hours of hiking. Lunch, sunscreen, and bug spray.
This hike is geared towards those in their 20's & 30's. An email out 1-3 days before with the weather and any other notes. Rain will be a judgement call if we go ahead or reschedule.
