Description: Join me as I scout this hike for the newest edition of 50 Hikes in CT. That means I will be stopping at Intersections and points of interest to record notes. Registration requested but not required. Meeting time 8:45 am for prompt 9:00 am starting time from the Comstock Covered Bridge parking lot, 1 Comstock Bridge Rd, Colchester, CT. We will hike at a briskly moderate pace of 2 mph though Salmon River State Forest and Day Pond State Park. Total mileage 6 to 7 miles. Terrain is typical rocky CT trails. Also please note there is a steady up in the first two miles which we will do without much stopping. This is a beautiful hike which includes some cool attractions: the historic Comstock Covered Bridge, the Salmon River, Day Pond Brook cascades, and Day Pond. Bring plenty of water for a potentially hot June day weather. W e will have a snack stop at Day Pond and a snack/lunch stop at the cascades. Inclement weather cancels, leader will make decision no later than 7 AM the day of. Directions: On google maps we start at "Historic Comstock Covered Bridge 1 Comstock Bridge Rd, East Hampton, CT" From I-91 take CT-9 south, take exit 16 for CT-17 N toward CT-66 E Portland/Willimantic. Follow signs to CT-66 E. Once on CT-66 E in about 6 miles you turn right on CT-16 east. In about 5 miles, turn left onto Bridge Street. The parking lot is on your right.
