Description: All hikers must pre-register online. Meet at 8:45 for a prompt 9:00 start for this hike of about four miles, first out to the West River and then around Lake Bethany. The hike is on water-company land, so no dogs are allowed. Parking is behind a locked gate, which will be open from 8:30-8:45; the gate will be locked while we are hiking. There are two short road-walks on quiet roads, but otherwise we'll be on a combination of dirt trails and dirt/gravel woods roads. There likely will be areas of long grass, so tick precautions are important. Hikers must carry at least 1-2 liters of water and a snack. Remember to use sunscreen, and insect and tick repellent. Hikers are responsible for carrying personal medications and first-aid supplies. Hikers must wear appropriate footwear with good traction: no sneakers. Poles are optional. We will meet at the locked gate at 200 Hatfield Hill Road, Bethany. Once the hike starts, I will not be monitoring my phone. Behind the locked gate is a porta-potty that is usually clean and well-stocked, and there are plenty of trees if you prefer.
