Description: Welcome to our 20s & 30s community camping trip to Macedonia Brook State Park, tucked in the northwes t hills of Connecticut! According to the park's website, " the park’s more than 10 miles of trails show off the range of terrain, including some of the most challenging ascents and some of the most spectacular vistas in Connecticut. Hike the Blue Trail across Cobble Mountain and several other peaks for outstanding views of the Catskill and Taconic mountains. Numerous springs and streams along the way only add to the park’s beauty." With lots to explore, this will be a largely unstructured weekend with everyone being free to choose their own adventure. The choice is yours to hike, read, unwind, hangout around the campfire, play camping games, or all of the above. Lee is hosting an official AMC hike ( 20s & 30s Macedonia Brook Loop & Kent Falls Red and Yellow Loop Trail ) , but it is completely optional to join. Some will likely find a place to swim at some point, given the lack of showers.
The campground Macedonia Brook State Park is a primitive campground with minimal amenities. Things the campground does not have: No showers, modern bathrooms and running water (they do have outhouses and drinking water) No cell service No alcohol, pets, or out-of-state firewood allowed Hammocks are not allowed to be hung from trees / campground structures No camp store The campground is reportedly short-staffed this year
Cost / Questions for leaders / Refund policy $12.50 will be collected upon registration. Within a few days of registering, the leaders will reach out with a welcome email and phone call, at which point you can ask us any questions. We know everyone comes with varying levels of camping experience and our goal is to be supportive! If you have any questions or uncertainties that you want to talk to leaders about, feel free to go ahead and sign up. If in the initial dialogue you change your mind, a full refund will be provided. After the initial communication, refunds will be guaranteed only if the spot can be filled by someone else.
Carpool / Train option We'll try to arrange carpools, especially for people without vehicles. A pickup option may be possible from nearby Tenmile River station on the Metro-North Harlem Line. Please let the leaders know as soon as possible if you will be requiring a carpool. For everyone else, a carpool survey will be sent out 1-2 weeks ahead of the camping trip. Carpooling is completely optional. Check in time at the campground starts at 1pm, but participants are welcome to arrive at varying times after that. Each site includes two vehicles so not every vehicle will be able to stay at the sites. The campground has an overflow parking area.
