Description: This begins a series of hikes on the Appalachian Trail, now in its second century, covering all of the CT trail in sections averaging 5-8 miles each. Our opening hike, one of the shortest of the CT sections, is approximately 5-5.5 miles long, traveling south from the Bulls Bridge trailhead and end at Hoyt Road (car spot required). Highlights include hiking along the Housatonic and Ten Mile Rivers, ascending up nearly 1,000 feet to the lookout summit of Ten Mile Hill, continuing on woodland trails down to Rte. 55 (trail parking lot) and walking to finish with a stop at Hoyt Rd, the official start of the AT in CT. On the way south we will add an approx. 1- mile loop on the Herrick Trail to enjoy scenic overlook views of the Housatonic. Our pace will be an average 1.5 to 2mph, with two short breaks. Bring water and snacks. Poles can be helpful for some steepish ascents and rocky/rooted trail conditions. No dogs, please. High heat temperatures and/or heavy rain cancels. Leader will provide more details and exact parking directions to registered hikers the day before the hike.
