Description: Come join our Appalachian Mountain Club 20s/30s community for an evening 2.5 to 2.75 mile loop hike around the Branford Quarry & Hoadley Creek preserves! Our loop starts at the end of Red Hill Road and includes sections of the Branford Trail, Green Trail, and Purple Trail. While there aren't any sweeping scenic vistas, the hike is unique in its own way and includes some interesting rocky terrain, a glimpse of the Stony Creek Quarry, the selectman's stones, and an extended boardwalk. Plan on a couple rocky sections where it may be necessary to use your hands to clamber over some large rocks. The terrain is hilly, but there is no major elevation change overall.
Registration is requested. New participants are always welcome! Any final notes and weather notices will be emailed to registered participants 1-3 days before. Would like to bring a well-behaved dog? Prefer there not to be a dog on the hike for any reason? Please coordinate with the leader in advance.
What to bring:
Footwear & water for 2.75 miles of walking in the woods / up to 2 hours
Snacks / bug spray / sunscreen as needed
Directions:
Coordinates: 41.29325, -72.74525. Trailhead and free parking are all the way at the end of Red Hill Rd in Branford, CT, easily accessed from Exit 56 off of I-95. Look for signs that indicate where to park, mostly on the right side. I can do a pickup from the CT Transit 201 bus if I have plenty of advance notice.
Optional Meal / Social:
After the hike, we may regroup at nearby Sky Diner.
