Description: A half RIGOROUS half moderate loop hike of about 8 miles with varied terrain. The first half of the hike is strenuous and rocky as we climb up to and walk along the trap rock ridge. The second half is moderate and generally flat. We will hike at a briskly moderate pace of 2 - 2.5 mph . Nice views along the ridge plus we go by Lake Wintergreen at the start and Farm Brook Pond at the halfway point. Bring plenty of water, snacks/lunch, bug spray, sunscreen, and a personal first aid kit. Heavy rain cancels. Meet at 8:45 am for an 9:00 am start at West Rock State Park - Lake Wintergreen on Main Street in Hamden. There is a fairly large parking lot - note the gate does not open until 8:00 AM.
