Description: Come join our Appalachian Mountain Club 20s/30s community for an evening hike between Jarvis Creek Farm and Stony Creek! The full route, if we have the daylight for it, is about 3.6 miles round trip and goes from Jarvis Creek Farm to the Thimble Island Ferry dock. Sunset is at 7:23pm so we may have to skip walking into historic Stony Creek Village if we become tight on time. If we do walk into the village, there will be a road portion. Either way, we will have many views of the marshes and plenty of time to enjoy this scenic area.
New people are always welcome! Registration is requested. Any final notes and weather postponements/cancellations will be emailed to registered participants 1-3 days before. Would like to bring a well-behaved dog? Prefer there not to be a dog on the hike for any reason? Please coordinate with the leader in advance. The end time is just an estimate and depends on the speed of the group.
What to bring:
Footwear & water for 3.6 miles of hiking / 2 hours.
Snacks / bug spray / sunscreen as needed.
Headlamp / light source just in case.
Directions: Plenty of free parking at Jarvis Creek Farm Preserve, coordinates 41.2673, -72.734.
Please arrive a few minutes early for a prompt start time. We will not wait beyond 5:35pm given the waning daylight.
I maybe able to do a pickup/drop off at the 201 CT Transit bus, contact me well in advance.
Optional Meal / Social: After the hike, we may regroup at nearby Cafe Fiore where they have a discounted "Ladies' Night" menu (for all) on Tuesdays.
Carpool Survey: It's always great for the environment, comradery, and saving money when we can ride together. If you are interested in offering or accepting a ride, please fill out this questionnaire after registering.
About: Founded in 1876, the Appalachian Mountain Club is a non-profit organization that promotes the protection, enjoyment, and understanding of the mountains, forests, waters, and trails of America’s Northeast and Mid-Atlantic regions. The word "club" by no means implies exclusivity: AMC is a welcoming community where people of all backgrounds can come together and enjoy the outdoors. The Connecticut Chapter of AMC is active across the state and volunteers organize hundreds of activities annually. The CT Young Members Committee is geared towards participants in their 20s & 30s. Some goals of the 20s & 30s group is to add more frequent activities and expand into multi-day adventures such as camping trips, hostels, backpacking, and destination trips that build community and lasting friendships. This activity is geared towards those who identify as ages 20-39; for more information please review this document.
