Description: Continuing a series of mostly moderate section hikes covering all of the CT AT, this approx. 7.2- mile hike will run north (avg. pace 1.5-2 mph, total elev. gain approx. 2200 ft.), starting at the hiker lot on River Rd. south of Cornwall Bridge and ending at the AT parking areas along W. Cornwall Rd. We begin with a hike up and over Silver Hill (elev. 1266) with a visit to the campsite, cross Rt. 4 and then descend to cross Guinea Brook on stepping stones. This brook can be hazardous if water is running high and fast; hikers are advised by a posted sign to walk through the water or take an alternate route around should conditions be difficult. Hike leader will monitor the brook levels and advise registered hikers of conditions prior to the hike morning. After the brook, we'll ascend up the trail and take a brief side trail further up and back to visit the summit of Bread Loaf Mtn.(elev. 1022), before continuing along woodland trails to then summit and take in more views from Pine Knob (elev. 1096). The hike includes one more stop at Cesar Brook Campsite before continuing across a couple more water crossings and down a series of stone steps to finish. Bring plenty of water and snacks/lunch. Poles can be helpful for steepish ascents/descents and seasonal water-crossing conditions. No dogs, please. REGISTRATION WILL BE LIMITED due to limited parking at both trailheads (a 14-minute car spot is required; 2-3 volunteers are needed.). High Temperatures and/or heavy rain cancels. RAIN DATE: Sunday, Oct. 4. Leader will provide more details and exact parking directions to registered hikers the day before the hike morning.
