Description: All hikers must pre-register online. No dogs. Meet at 8:45 for a prompt 9:00 start to this hike of roughly six miles on West Rock. We'll start with a steady ascent on the Westville Feeder Trail to historic Judges' Cave, then descend through the woods for a level walk before ascending the rocky trail to the South Overlook. After descending partway on the feeder trail, we'll follow a side trail that takes us to the base of the cliffs; we'll then return to the feeder trail and to our cars. Hikers must wear appropriate hiking footwear with good traction: no sneakers. Poles are recommended. Be sure to bring water, a snack, sunscreen, insect and tick repellent, personal medications and first-aid supplies. There isn't always a porta-potty near the parking lot, and there never are trees that provide privacy, so make a pit stop in advance. Parking is in a municipal lot shared by a school and other businesses at 495 Blake Street, New Haven. Meet in the back corner, near the bridge over the river.
