Description: Are you a member of the New Haven Reads community and would like to experience an Appalachian Mountain Club hike? Are you a member of the AMC community and would like to learn about the volunteer opportunities at New Haven Reads? This hike is for you!
Join us for a joint hike between these two great non-profit institutions! We will be doing an out and back on the well-maintained Tower Path in Sleeping Giant State Park, gradually ascending about 650 feet in elevation over 3.5 miles round trip. We'll enjoy the tower at the top and may also walk over to some nearby ledges for an additional viewpoint. Sleeping Giant trail map .
Registration is requested. Any final notes and weather postponements/cancellations will be emailed to registered participants 1-3 days before. Please, no dogs on this one, with an exception for service dogs. The end time is just an estimate and depends on the speed of the group and how long we spend at the top.
What to bring: Footwear/water for 3.5 miles on the trail. Snacks / bug spray / sunscreen as needed.
Directions: Parking and the meet location is inside the main park entrance at 200 Mt Carmel Ave, Hamden, CT 06518 . We will gather near the information board between the first parking area on the right and the start of the Tower Path. Parking is free for CT vehicles and $15 for out-state plates. The start point is walkable from a 228 and 229 routes CT Transit bus stop.
