Paddling Mallows Bay in Southern Maryland

Details
Come and join us as we paddle Mallows Bay, part of the Mallows Bay-Potomac River National Marine Sanctuary. Mallows Bay is most renowned for its “Ghost Fleet,” the partially submerged remains of more than 100 wooden steamships that were built in response to threats from World War I-era German U-boats that were sinking ships in the Atlantic.
Through our 3 mile paddle, we will circumnavigate Mallows Bay, paddling alongside and between many partially submerged boats. We will then paddle into Burning Basin and up Mallows Creek up to the head of navigable waters and finish back at the boat launch.
Canoes and kayaks are the recommend watercraft for this paddling trip as the number of submerged structures make standup paddle boards and inflatable vessels unsafe.
This is a great trip for those with only limited paddling experience as well as long time paddlers.
Registration is required, you can sign up to participate in this paddling trip at https://activities.outdoors.org/s/oc-activity/a5UUN000000xlu9/act00012596.
