Fast Paced Weekday Multiple 4K Peaks In a Day Hike.- Osceolas

Details

Join us for the first in the series : Fast Paced Weekday Multiple 4K Peaks In a Day Hike. This out and back weekday hike is up to Mt Osceola and East Osceola in the Southern part of the White Mountains. The planned elevation gain is 2800 feet, with Mt. Osceola sitting at 4340 feet and East at 4156. The 7.4 mile route is wooded and involves rock and rock slabs. As this is a faster paced hike, we will hike an average of 1.5 to 2.5 mph. Hikers should be in very good cardiovascular health and have recently completed hikes of a similar elevation and speed.

The trail continues a few hundred yards out to Osceola's viewpoint ledge and the site of its most recent fire tower. The views of Mt. Washington, area white mountains, Waterville Valley are best viewed from Mt Osceola and view points along the way. East Osceola has limited views. Note that 3.2 miles, the summit of Mt Osceola has footings of an old fire tower. After leaving the summit we will scramble down the daunting “Chimney”, a steep rocky section of trail and continue to viewless East Osceola where we will turn around and hike back. Though we will take short breaks, this hike will not involve lots of stops or a leisurely lunch.
