Fast Paced Multiple 4K in a day Kinsmans

Join us for a fast paced hike to North (4,293’) and South (4,358’) Kinsman Mountains in NH. We will be hiking an out and back route that will include two 4,000-footer peaks and approximately 10.2 miles with 3,235 feet of elevation gain.

North Kinsman's pointed peak provides a stunning directional view across Franconia Notch to the Franconia Range, while South Kinsman has more limited views. These two peaks are roughly 1K shorter than some of the mountains across the notch. The rolling Fishin' Jimmy Trail make the hike to the Kinsmans longer and some would say more rugged than the climbs to the Franconia Ridge. No matter as this hike is a scenic and satisfying hike that involves many views and two pretty mountain ponds.
We will experience switchbacks, rocky slabs, wooden ladders, steps cut into rocks, rocky sections, the Lonesome Lake Hut and peaks into Kinsman pond and tent site.
The Franconia range and Cannon Mountain will be visible as you gain elevation.
We will summit Noth Kinsman first for limited views and descend steeply and begin our climb up South Kinsman. From here, there are views in all directions, but they are partially blocked because of the wide summit area. You may be able to see Mt. Moosilauke The highest point is marked with a large cairn, which has recently been shaped into a chair! Here we may continue on for a short bit to a lunch spot with great views before we reverse direction.

With luck we will share the trail with Appalachian Trail thru hikers as they near the end of their over 2K mile journey! Parts of our trek are the Appalachian Trail!

This hike is considered advanced due to exposure, speed and terrain. It will involve hiking an average of 1.5 to 2.0 mph. Hikers should have similar recent hiking experience and must be in good physical health. Breaks will be minimal, though we will briefly break for lunch. Hikers should come prepared for the weather as it changes quickly in the whites. Multiple layers, rain gear (never leave home to hike without it), hiking poles, sun protection and the 10 essentials are necessary.
