Description: There’s something magical about winter hiking—the crisp air, quiet trails, and stunning snow-covered landscapes. Whether you’re completely new to hiking in cold weather or looking to refresh your skills and gear knowledge, this Winter Gear Talk & Hike is the perfect way to kick off your cold-weather adventures. This outing is part of the SEM Beginner Winter Hiking Series , a welcoming program designed to help you build confidence, stay safe, and have fun on winter trails. Our series starts with beginner-friendly events and gradually moves toward more challenging hikes, including opportunities to explore the beauty of New Hampshire’s mountains. If you’re interested in participating in the more advanced New Hampshire hikes later in the series, attendance at a gear talk and hike is required. In addition, participants must either attend a winter hiking workshop or have prior winter hiking experience. The SEM Winter Workshop will be held on November 1 . If you’d like to join the workshop, please register for that event separately. Even if the weather isn’t fully wintery on this particular day, come prepared with your winter hiking gear and clothing . You’ll pack and carry your winter load, giving you real-world practice with the gear you’ll rely on later in the season. A detailed gear and clothing list will be provided to confirmed participants. We’ll start the day with a Winter Gear “Show and Tell” under the open pavilion at the Houghton Pond Parking Lot from 9:00–9:30 AM . Our leaders will showcase their winter setups, help you review your own gear, and answer any questions to make sure you’re ready to hit the trails with confidence. Then we’ll head out on a 5 mile hike with an elevation gain of 1,200 feet . This trip is open to all qualified participants. You do not need to be a member of AMC to attend, but registration is required . Join us for a fun, supportive, and educational day outdoors—and get ready to embrace winter hiking season with confidence.
