Description: Please join us for our Spring Conditioning Hike Series in the Blue Hills. This 10-week series will run every Tuesday morning from March 24th through May 26th. This series is designed for intermediate and advanced hikers who are looking to maintain or enhance their conditioning level. Participants should be in good physical condition with recent hiking experience that includes elevation. You can expect the hikes to be about 4 hours and approximately 6-8 miles with an elevation gain ranging from 1,200-1,800 feet (elevation gain will progress throughout the series). The pace will average around 2mph but will be faster on flat to low grade surfaces and a bit slower when ascending/descending steep inclines. Difficulty level is on the more challenging end of moderate. The routes will include uneven terrain, rock scrambles and ledges in the Blue Hills.
Participants should bring sturdy footwear, a backpack, layered clothing suitable for hiking in the spring, rain gear, at least 2 liters of water , a lunch or snacks and sun block. Trekking poles are optional but recommended. Ticks are out so long sleeved tops and long pants are recommended. Circle-Up time is 9:45am and end time is around 2:00pm, but may be as late as 2:15. Online registration is required for each weekly hike, but you are not required to attend each session. The hike is open to everyone 18 or older and you do not need to be a member of AMC to participate.
The exact starting location along with a detailed information sheet with all of the specifics will be sent to registered hikers several days prior to the actual hike.
