Description: Please consider joining us for a Saturday morning cardio hike in the Blue Hills. This will be a fast and mostly flat hike in the North and East part of Ponkapoag Pond ( provisional route map ).
This hike is for intermediate to advanced hikers who are looking to maintain their conditioning level. Participants should be in good shape with recent hiking experience. You can expect the hike to be around 4 hours, approximately 8 miles in length and with around 600ft of elevation gain over the course of the hike (but no hills). There will be a small amount of in and out hiking for those who are Trail Tracing this section of the Blue Hills.
Participants should bring sturdy footwear, a backpack, layered clothing suitable for hiking in the late summer, rain gear, at least 2 liters of water, a lunch or snacks and sun block. Trekking poles are optional since this is mostly a flat hike but recommended if you get wobbly when tired or walking fast.
Meet up time is 9:30 AM and expect to be back at your cars around 2PM. The hike is open to everyone, and you do not need to be a member of AMC to participate. However, on-line registration is required and you may be screened ahead of the hike to check that fast and long is a good fit for your abilities.
