Description: Join us for a nice 20s/30s after-work hike! Our plan is to head south on the Appalachian Trail from Shay's Rebellion Monument in Sheffield to Guilder Hollow Road in South Egremont, which is about 2.7 miles. This section is relatively relaxed (about 250 feet of elevation total), and is in mostly unpopulated and quiet areas. Our hope is to hike at a reasonable pace, taking plenty of breaks, as we watch out for wildlife. We are planning to bring some hot water with us, so that we can have a warm beverage on the trail.
As we are meeting at 4pm, a portion of our hike will be in the dark. Therefore, each participant will need a working headlamp with extra batteries. Everyone will also need hiking shoes, plenty of water, optional snack, and layers appropriate for the dynamic weather. If conditions fluctuate massively, leaders will reach out with any changes to the plan. Dogs are welcome, but must remain leashed. Please let us know if you'd like to bring your pup!
We will meet at Guilder Hollow Road, leaving as few cars as needed at the end point. Then we will shuttle up to our start, making our way as a group. After finishing, everyone will have the option to head to nearby Great Barrington to have some food and socialize some more.
