AMC HQ Charlestown to Concord North Bridge Bike Ride-An AMC 150 Relay Segment

Description: Come join us for a casual city to country bike tour from AMC's HQ in Charlestown to Concord's North Bridge via almost exclusively bike paths and trails! Most surfaces are paved, however there is about 4 miles of hard packed gravel/dirt. Any bike type works for this ride from a road bike to a hybrid or mountain bike as long as you are comfortable with varied surfaces and crowded bike paths in urban areas. We will bike at a casual pace of 11-13 mph, but due to expected traffic and many road crossings our average speed will probably be 8-10 mph. Please download the route to your phone RWGPS app at the link below, but we will probably use the "Human Arrow" method of navigation especially if we are a large group.
As an added bonus this ride is a segment of the AMC 150 Relay ! Highlights of this ride will include biking along the Charles River Esplanade in Boston to Cambridge, then in Watertown we will ride the new-ish Watertown-Cambridge Greenway past Fresh Pond and to the iconic Minuteman Bikeway to Bedford and then the Reformatory Branch to North Bridge. Riders should have endurance and water, snacks, etc to ride the 26.5 miles nonstop with several short regroup stops.
The ride will formally end at Concord North Bridge, but we will have an optional social/group lunch at own cost in Concord. Note that this ride starts in Charlestown and ends in Concord. Riders are expected to make their own arrangements, or just ride back to Charleston. Another option is the MBTA commuter rail Fitchburg line which has a stop in Concord and returns to North Station.
