Description: Come enjoy a mellow 13.2 -mile mostly bike path tour from AMC's City Square HQ in Charlestown to Somerville on the new Community Path then to Fresh Pond then returning via the Esplanade, mostly on bike trails. Most surfaces are paved; Though we are mostly on bike paths, there are many crossings and expect heavy bike, and pedestrian traffic and quick turns. Following the rules of the road is a must for safety. Cyclists should be able to maintain a steady 11-13 mph riding speed. Due to the urban conditions our overall speed will probably be 8-10 mph including waiting for lights. To keep the group well guided and sort of together through the many turns and crossings, we will ask riders to participate in the "human arrow" method (more detail at the pre-ride brief). Helmets required, bright, highly visible clothing and blinky lights are highly recommended due to approaching darkness. Meet at 5:45 pm ready to bike in the park across the street from AMC's HQ at 10 City Square in Charlestown for a short safety brief then we will get riding. For those interested after the ride, we will be having something to eat and refreshments at the nearby Blackmore Bar and Kitchen after the ride.
