Description: This bicycling event is for any AMC member or guest who want to experience a ride in Boston that links together the many bike paths and lanes into a loop around the city. The ride loops around the city for about 35 miles using mostly dedicated bike paths and protected bike lanes, with a few road connections between some entry points, allowing the rider to enjoy the many sights. We’ll go at a more relaxed pace since most of the ride follows Boston’s bike path network, with stops to cross streets at various crosswalks. We’ll plan to make a few stops along the way at various points of interest and for a lunch break. The route is primarily flat, with the exception of a section around Franklin Park.
The ride will start at City Square Park in Charlestown, where we will follow the bike path along the Charles River. We will then join another bike path along the Fenway and Emerald Necklace to Jamaica Pond. The ride then continues through the Arnold Arboretum to a lunch break in Jamaica Plain, then traverses back through a slice of Franklin Park before joining the bike path along the Neponset River. At the end of the Neponset River bike path, we link with the bike path along Boston Harbor starting at UMass-Boston up to the Greenway. Then, our last leg will follow the Greenway to the bike path along Atlantic Avenue, ending back at City Square Park. Registration is required to keep the group to a manageable size for this type of ride. All riders will need a bike in good working order with a spare tire, and at least one water bottle (two preferred). For planning purposes, note that this AMC group ride usually takes about 4.5 hours to complete,
