Description: Join us in celebrating 150 years of AMC with this AMC 150th Relay Segment as part of a 1,500-mile journey from Virginia to Maine. Together, we’ll honor the past and shape the future of outdoor adventure. For this leg of the relay, we’ll head from Milo, Maine to AMC’s Gorman Chairback Lodge in the north Maine Woods. Please bring a packed or bought lunch for this ride.
Itinerary: We will meet at 10:00 am at the Milo Recreation Department . After registering, the exact meeting location and additional details will be emailed a few days before the event. Prior to Start – Leader facilitated car spots to end point 10:00 am - Meet for a welcome and safety briefing. 10:15 am - Begin our ride, stopping at various points of interest. 12:00 pm (approx.) Lunch stop along the way. 2:00 pm – (approx.) End at the AMC Gorman Chairback Lodge 3:30 pm – (approx.) Arrive back at start point via Ldr. facilitated car spots. Route: The ride route is on the Boston Chapter Bike Committee RWGPS Club Site AMC150 Collection , please download the RWGPS app from the App store to your phone then click on this invite link to get full use of the RWGPS club site. Click here for our 29-mile route with 1600 feet of climbing. Our ride will take us north on paved roads to Brownville, then on dirt roads and we climb along the Pleasant River into the north Maine Woods, passing Katahdin Ironworks on the way to Gorman Chairback Losge. We plan on a pace of about 12 mph, and this ride is classified as vigorous due to the climbing per the AMC Trip Rating System . Please email the leader if you have any specific questions.
Bike & Gear: A gravel or hybrid bike would be best for this ride; we will be mostly on dirt roads. You should have the tools and gear with you to be able to handle minor repairs, such as a flat tire and make minor bike adjustments yourself. Riders should have two water bottle cages on their bike or use a camelback. We also highly recommend carrying a jacket and for safety have a rearward facing red blinky light and wear high-viz clothing.
Special Logistic Notes: The AMC150 segments are set up as a point-to-point, one-way relay. Since this ride is more than 20-25 miles most folks won’t want to do an “out and back” ride. The leaders will be facilitating car spots to make it work with the riders that register.
Also, as this ride is part of a 1500-mile relay, there isn’t a rain date; the ride will either run or cancel due to weather. The leader will run the ride unless there is sustained, heavy rain. Riders should make their own decision to cancel if conditions are outside or their comfort zone.
About the AMC 150th Relay : Since 1876, AMC has connected people to the outdoors through recreation, education, and conservation. In 2026, we celebrate 150 years of that legacy with the AMC 150th Relay—a 1,500-mile journey from Virginia to Maine. Each leg of the relay contributes to a continuous route across the Northeast, showcasing the diversity of AMC’s outdoor legacy. Join the celebration by participating in a relay segment, attending a local event, or sharing your AMC story. Together, we’ll honor the past and shape the future of outdoor adventure.
