Description: This bicycling experience is for anyone who want to experience a leader-led ride in a loop around the city of Boston. The ride loops around the city for about 35 miles, using primarily dedicated bike paths and protected bike lanes, with a few road connections between some entry points. We’ll go at a more relaxed pace since most of the ride follows Boston’s bike path network, with a few stops to cross streets at various crosswalks. We’ll plan to make a few stops along the way at various points of interest, and for a lunch break. The route has very little elevation, with the exception of a section close to Franklin Park. The ride will start and end at City Square Park in Charlestown. From the park, we will follow the bike path along the Charles River. We will then join the Emerald Necklace bike path along the Fenway to Jamaica Pond. The ride then continues through the Arnold Arboretum to a bike path along the Southwest Corridor Park. We’ll stop for a lunch break in Jamaica Plain, then traverse back through Franklin Park before connecting with the bike path along the Neponset River. At the end of the Neponset River bike path, we link with the bike path along Boston Harbor past UMass-Boston and Carson Beach to Castle Island. From there, we’ll connect with a bike path through the Seaport to the Greenway. We will then follow the bike lane along the Greenway to the bike path along Atlantic Avenue, ending back at City Square Park. Registration is required for this ride. Participants need to be prepared to pedal about 35 miles over a time period of 4.5 to 5 hours. All riders will need a bike in good working order with a spare tire, and at least one water bottle (two preferred).
