About us
Asheville Movement Collective envisions a world that moves in harmony where all are free to be their authentic selves within a loving community. Our mission and aim are to inspire authenticity and healthy community through free-form dance by hosting dance waves for personal and community transformation.
We host three dances per week, plus some special events.
Though you may notice just a few RSVPs on this site, our typical attendance is 20-30 on Friday, 50-60 for Sunday first wave, and a little over 100 for second wave.

Remember the freedom of the open road. The sense that all possibilities open to us once we decide to take charge of the wheel. Come dance the highways, gravel roads, single tracks, and neural pathways. Dance your way through the tunnels and rainstorms, over expansive bridges and round and round the circular tracks. Find escape maneuvers from dead ends and traffic jams. Feel the power of the engine when you press down the pedal, lean in to the slow arcs of the curves, savor the confusion of getting lost and the satisfaction in knowing your way. Enjoy the quiet solitude of the open road, the companionability of friends, or the reassurance of a Dog beside you. Choose your destination and your path.
About Sara Bensman
Sara’s mix-making arises from musical exploration. She seeks to understand energy through somatic responses to sonic vibrations. Her facilitation is propelled by a desire to help build and sustain community by creating a safe, loving container for self-expression, connection and release. Humans seem to have a part that needs to know, and it causes us to lock in beliefs without adequate information. Then we have to defend those beliefs so that we aren’t ‘wrong’, fighting with others who locked in different beliefs. This Sunday, let’s experience the freedom of not knowing.
About Ted Riskin
Ted is interested in anything that can get him out of his head, and music and movement do a pretty good job of that. He hopes to offer music that facilitates an inner journey and invitations that create a shift. While he likes modern electronic music, he can’t create a mix without including lots of natural instruments and voices. Due to a short attention span, he mixes in lots of different musical genres. Marta has been part of AMC since she moved to Asheville from Surfside, FL in 2008. She has been teaching movement for over 30 years, using music and movements from around the world.

About DJ SeigeA
CJ O'Reilly has been creating ecstatic dance waves for the Asheville community since 2014. Their eclectic mix of musical styles beckons dancers into new patterns of movement and expression through diverse time signatures and instrumentation, and a wide range of musical and emotive qualities. CJ's waves explore high peaks, beautiful vistas, juicy lowlands and the profound reflective stillness of tranquil water. CJ's dance waves are pre-produced and refined through the body and ears of a dancer and audiophile.
