About us
Asheville Movement Collective envisions a world that moves in harmony where all are free to be their authentic selves within a loving community. Our mission and aim are to inspire authenticity and healthy community through free-form dance by hosting dance waves for personal and community transformation.
We host three dances per week, plus some special events.
Though you may notice just a few RSVPs on this site, our typical attendance is 20-30 on Friday, 50-60 for Sunday first wave, and a little over 100 for second wave.

Rory is a singer/songwriter and an AMC Facilitator. He stepped into Ecstatic Dance in Houston, TX for the first time in 2014 and believes in the power of dance to transform and bring a healthier, happier, and connected lifestyle. It is that driving force and passion that pushes him to explore the role of being an Ecstatic Dance Facilitator using world rhythms and different musical genres to weave mixes that incorporate many elements of 8Rhythms.

Nata Das is a local Asheville group that has been playing for the AMC for 12 years. We will be using the movements of the dancers present to help shape the ebb and flow of this dance. Facilitator Sara BensmanIntention: Like the First Time
Imagine yourself experiencing music for the very first time. Your body naturally reacts to the rhythms, spontaneously engaged with beat and melody. Before the concepts of dance, grace, or acceptable moves exist in your mind, before the imprints of cultural norms take root in your cells, your body simply played in the field of music.
This is an invitation to release all you think and feel and know about dancing and come explore the floor with the innocence of a toddler. Allow yourself to take a break from patterns of movement you've cultivated throughout your life, to experiment with new ways of responding to music and community and to re-set your nervous system with your organic expressions.

Sara’s mix-making arises from musical exploration. She seeks to understand energy through somatic responses to sonic vibrations. Her facilitation is propelled by a desire to help build and sustain community by creating a safe, loving container for self-expression, connection and release.
