About us
Asheville Movement Collective envisions a world that moves in harmony where all are free to be their authentic selves within a loving community. Our mission and aim are to inspire authenticity and healthy community through free-form dance by hosting dance waves for personal and community transformation.
We host three dances per week, plus some special events.
Though you may notice just a few RSVPs on this site, our typical attendance is 20-30 on Friday, 50-60 for Sunday first wave, and a little over 100 for second wave.

DJ Mikaya (Micah Swabb) is a facilitator at AMC and creator of dance waves with many styles and flavors within the Ecstatic Dance realm. His deejay skill has spanned over two decades covering many ecstatic dance containers, festivals, sound healing events and yoga classes. About the DJ
DJ SeigeA (CJ O'Reilly) has been creating ecstatic dance waves for the Asheville community since 2014. Their eclectic mix of musical styles beckons dancers into new patterns of movement and expression through diverse time signatures and instrumentation, and a wide range of musical and emotive qualities. CJ's waves explore high peaks, beautiful vistas, juicy lowlands and the profound reflective stillness of tranquil water. Within you lives a full spectrum of personalities, from the wounded child to the wise sage, from the artist to the scientist and so many varied expressions in between. This dance is an invitation to step fully into that multi-dimensional being and welcome all parts of yourself, raw, real, and FREE. Drop the mask of your "usual self" and allow what’s been hidden or suppressed to breathe, move, be seen and felt, whether it be the elegant or the profane, the tender or the fierce, the serious or the sensual, the timid or the wild one. There is no bad or wrong part of you. It's all perfect, whole & complete. Together, we celebrate radical self-acceptance rather than comparison and rediscover the freedom of being wholly, unapologetically you. In the words of the great Dr. Seuss, "Today you are You, that is truer than true. There is no one alive who is Youer than You". Karen Funshine (Karen Smith) has been dancing since age 3, with movement as her lifelong ally. A veteran raver & EDM enthusiast, she was delighted to discover 5Rhythms and ecstatic dance 10 years ago in Austin - a sober and judgment-free space to get wild & free. She’s since facilitated many women’s conscious dance circles and a vibrant live-instrument dance - weaving music and somatic movement to alchemize emotion, open the heart, and awaken joy. Recently relocated to Asheville, Karen is honored to share her passion and playfulness with her beautiful new community through the universal language of music and dance.~~~

About the Facilitator| DJ
Ted Riskin is interested in anything that can get him out of his head, and music and movement do a pretty good job of that. He hopes to offer music that facilitates an inner journey and invitations that create a shift. While he likes modern electronic music, he can’t create a mix without including lots of natural instruments and voices. Due to a short attention span, he mixes in lots of different musical genres.
