What we’re about
The Appalachian Mountain Club (“AMC”) is one of the oldest outdoors groups in the United States. We offer activities for all types and levels of outdoor enthusiasts, including hiking, backpacking, rock climbing, mountaineering, kayaking, bicycling and more!
AMC has 12 regional chapters in the Northeast region that stretch from Maine to Washington, D.C. The New York-North Jersey Chapter is the second largest with over 12,000 members. We have over 100,000 members nationally.
Young Members (“YM”) is an affinity group within AMC for members in their 20’s and 30’s. YM holds monthly outdoors events (e.g., day hikes, camping trips, kayaking trips) and a happy hour on every third Thursday of the month (“Thirsty Third Thursdays”). A few times a year, we hold inter-chapter events with YM groups from the 11 other chapters in our organization.
If you’re interested in the outdoors and are looking to make new friends, then please come to one of our events. Please note that we’re open to everyone, including “non-members”!

Join us for a refreshing 2.4 mile loop on the Orange Trail through one of Queens’ most enchanting urban forests. Throughout this loop we’ll wander beneath century‑old pitch pines, cross footbridges over streams, and even see early 20th century stone walls! Maybe we'll even get to see resident red tailed hawks and screech owls.
This loop trail will be taken at a relaxed pace, on relatively flat terrain, with plenty of breaks and shaded areas. Forest Park is a wonderful oasis that is perfect for hikers seeking a taste of wilderness without venturing far from home.
Bring water, weather-appropriate clothes, sun-screen, bug spray, sturdy footwear, and a positive attitude! No dogs allowed on this hike.
Register by clicking HERE register and electronically sign the waiver, or RSVP on Meetup and sign a paper waiver at the start of the trip.
Meeting Place & Time: Meet us at 9:00am at the park entrance at Park Lane South and Myrtle Ave. After a brief talk about the AMC and this morning's route, we'll start off no later than 9:15am.
How to get there: Richmond Hill (Park Lane S on Google) & Myrtle Ave Entrance. It is the Park Ln South & Myrtle Av Stop on the Q37 Bus. It is a 12 minute walk from the 104th St station on the J or Z train or 20 minutes walk from the Kew Gardens E or F and LIRR train station stops.
