Join the AMC NY-NoJ Chapter's Conservation Committee in environmental stewardship efforts for our local marine habitat. Saturday, take part in the annual International Coastal Cleanup. Leader David Hartree will lead litter collection from the bay shoreline. Experienced paddlers can join leaders Henry Schreiber and Dawn Riley to remove debris at the birding islands. Plastic pollution poses a severe threat to marine life, birds, and ecosystems. The purpose of this cleanup event is to remove plastic debris and other pollutants from our shoreline, preventing them from reaching the ocean and causing further harm. By participating, you will contribute to the restoration of our coastal ecosystem and also raise awareness about the urgent need for sustainable practices. It's also a fantastic opportunity to connect with like-minded individuals who share your passion for environmental preservation. You can meet new friends, exchange ideas, and collaborate on future initiatives. Together, we can make a real difference and protect our oceans and marine life from the harmful effects of plastic waste. Stay for the weekend at the Fire Island Cabin or come for the day. The Day Guest fee is reimbursed and lunch will be provided for all participants in the Saturday cleanup event(s). Overnight guests taking part in the cleanup events will receive a rebate of $25 for members, $30 for non-members. REGISTRATION FOR CONSERVATION CLEANUP IS SEPARATE FROM RESERVING AN OVERNIGHT BUNK. Please register for the cleanup by emailing AMC Conservation Chair David Hartree at conservation@amc-ny.org by Wednesday, 9/12, to ensure a lunch will be set aside for you.
Shared bunkroom, hot outdoor showers, a screened porch, decks and use of shared kitchen. Beach equipment and sailboats (if led by an authorized sailor), kayaks, canoes, stand up paddleboards, yoga equipment, hammock, and a gazebo with a library and board games available for use.
COST* Adult: $170 member / $210 non-member (2 nights stay and food)
*Price listed includes overnight lodging in a shared bunk room on Friday and Saturday nights, use of facility amenities, Friday happy hour, Saturday early dinner, and self-serve continental breakfasts Saturday and Sunday.
Day guests ($25 fee member; $30 fee non-member) welcome and can call the cabin in advance (631-583-5366) or just show up.
