OVERVIEW:
We will take the Metro North train to Breakneck Ridge and ascend the scramble and then hike along Breakneck ridge to the South Beacon Mountain fire tower and on to the Beacon train station for the return train. This is a strenuous 10-mile hike with an ascent of 2000 ft and scrambling.

TRANSPORTATION:
Metro North Train: Take the 7:50 AM Metro North Poughkeepsie train to Breakneck Ridge which arrives at 9:20 AM. Follow signs to the stone staircase to the scrambles.

Drivers: Park at the Breakneck Ridge Parking lot (41.445715, -73.979600) and you will catch the return train with train riders to Breakneck Ridge to get cars.

Return: 4:09 PM train from Beacon to Grand Central Station arriving at 5:55 PM.

PREPARATION:
Hiking boots, gloves, trekking poles, non-cotton base layer and good insulation. A hearty lunch, snacks, 3L water and a pad for sitting on rocks for lunch.

FITNESS:
This hike is suitable for experienced, injury-free and athletic hikers with the endurance to scramble 500 ft in 0.5 mile.
