The Shinnecock Nation and Long Island

Rainbow Chavis, Cultural Resources Director for the Shinnecock Nation organization, and Jeremy Dennis, founder of Ma's House and BIPOC Art Studio Inc., will share insights into the rich history, culture, and future of the Shinnecock people.

Chavis and Dennis will share their current work and how they have confronted social inequality, discrimination, and racism on Long Island. Their stories serve as an inspiration to many and a testament to the resilience and strength of the Shinnecock people.

Rainbow Chavis is currently spearheading cultural programming and is instrumental in creating diverse projects aimed at maintaining and preserving cultural practices, fostering land-based healing with plant medicine, and developing an Algonquin language curriculum.

Jeremy Dennis, an indigenous artist deeply connected to his Shinnecock lineage, has created a safe space for BIPOC artists. His initiative allows artists to create, participate in residencies, and exhibit their contemporary work on the Shinnecock Indian Reservation.
