Reconnect with nature, explore new trails, and be a part of the AMC outdoor community—all without a car!

Join AMC’s Concrete to Trails Bus Trips
Discover wild places just beyond the city limits—no Uber, Lyft or train ticket required! Appalachian Mountain Club’s Concrete to Trails program offers weekly Saturday bus trips from New York City to stunning natural areas that are typically hard to reach without a vehicle. Whether you're a seasoned hiker or simply seeking fresh air and new views, these outings make it easy to escape the pavement and step into nature.

We invite you on a special fall foliage hike with Ramon Cruz, current AMC Board of Directors member and former Executive Director of the Sierra Club. While we enjoy Ramon's company and his insights into the environmental movement, we'll also admire nature's fiery autumnal display.

Our starting point is Reeves Meadow Visitor Center and visit with AMC's Outdoor Stewards Naturalists. Then we follow a picturesque trail along the brook about 2.5 miles to Pine Meadow Lake. It may be too chilly to dip our toes, but it will still be a beautiful spot for photos and a break. If there's time and interest, we may walk along the shore before heading back on a different trail for a total of 5.5-6 miles. Expect rocky terrain with elevation gain of less than 1000 feet. The trail has been dry lately, but if it rains the night before, conditions may be slippery. Pace will moderate with breaks along the way, including a longer stop at the lake. Just right for a autumn walk in the woods!
