**Series Overview**: Hike just one or collect the whole set as we traverse the southernmost portions of the Long Path from its start in Washington Heights north to Harriman State Park - about a dozen hikes in all. Whenever practical these will be loop hikes - it’s about the journey, not the destination, right? Many segments are rated Moderate or Easy and are suitable for new hikers, and many will also be public transit-friendly. Long Path (one-way) distance previously hiked: 12.47 miles.

**Hike #5**: From State Line Lookout in Alpine NJ we'll be pushing northward along the Long Path into New York State, making our way through Palisades NY and Tallman Mountain State Park in Piermont before returning to our start. This will be a "dumbbell" hike with loops at both ends to lend some variety and an unavoidable stretch of Route 9W in the middle going in both directions. Though the distance and elevation gain are larger than previous "Chain" hikes the footway is mostly easy and the elevation changes are mostly gradual, so it's still a Moderate hike. Early-outs with public transit access are available in Palisades and Piermont.
