We'll shuttle cars from the Lake Skanattati Parking Lot (off Seven Lakes Dr.) to the Elk Pen, then hike the AT up to the shelter on Fingerboard Mtn,, returning to Skanattati via the R-D and the ASB, with a possible extra loop to add a few more scenic sights. Hike will be 8-10 miles in total over mostly moderate, hilly terrain with some rocky spots. We will try to keep warm with a good pace, however - not a trail run, but a steady 2mph, with short and infrequent breaks. Think of it as a solid hike for the fit and experienced (4D10, according to the old AMC system). Come dressed for winter: hat and layers, waterproof boots, gaiters, and traction aids. Snowshoes may or may not be useful - bring them if you have them, and we'll evaluate on site whether it's likely worthwhile lugging them along. Of course, adequate nutrition and water for a full day on the trail are also essential. No public transportation for this hike.

Helpful if you can RSVP on Meetup (one response per vehicle, include number in party), to give us an idea in advance of how the shuttle will work out.

Other planning questions? please send a private "Meetup-mail" message to me (Nicholas) and include a way to contact you (telephone preferred).
