Forest Park Trail Walk for New Members
Details
New to the Appalachian Mountain Club? Looking to connect with other folks who love the outdoors? Join your AMC friends for an easy urban trail walk in Forest Park, Queens!
We'll start with a refreshing 2.4 mile loop on the Orange Trail through one of Queens’ most enchanting urban forests. Throughout this loop we’ll wander beneath century‑old pitch pines, cross footbridges over streams, and even see early 20th century stone walls! If there's interest and time, we can explore other trails as well. We might even get to see resident red tailed hawks and screech owls. Forest Park is a wonderful oasis that is perfect for hikers seeking a taste of wilderness without venturing far from home.
This loop trail will be taken at a relaxed pace, on relatively flat terrain, some paved or gravel or woodland. There will be plenty of breaks.
Bring water, lunch/snacks, weather-appropriate clothes, sturdy footwear appropriate for slippery or snowy surfaces, and a positive attitude! No dogs allowed on this hike.
Register on the AMC website at activities.outdoors.org or RSVP on Meetup. All participants will be asked to sign a liability waiver at the trailhead.
Meeting Place & Time: Meet us at 11:00 AM at the park entrance at Park Lane South and Myrtle Ave. After a brief talk about the AMC and this morning's route, we'll start off no later than 11:10 AM.
