New to the Appalachian Mountain Club? Looking to meet others who love the outdoors? Deepen your connection to the outdoors every month with new AMC friends!

Today, we venture to one of the most storied Cherry Blossom groves, located in Branch Brook Park in Newark, NJ. This park is the first county park in the country and designed by the Olmsted Brothers, of Central Park fame. It's listed on the National Register of Historic Place. More importantly, it boasts the largest collection of Japanese flowering cherry trees in the U.S., a beautiful signal to springtime! After immersing ourselves in the floral fireworks, we'll walk around and explore a section of this historic park.

Meet at 11:00 AM at Cherry Blossom Welcome Center. From NYC, take NJ Transit or the PATH to Newark Penn Station. Then take the Newark Light Rail (towards Grove Street or Branch Brook Park) and exit at Davenport Ave or Park Ave Stations. For drivers, the primary parking lot is located at the Cherry Blossom Welcome Center (accessible via Mill Street or Lake Street).

Bring water, lunch/snacks, weather-appropriate clothes, your smartphone or camera, sturdy footwear, and a positive attitude! No dogs are permitted on this walk.
