New to the Appalachian Mountain Club? Looking to connect with other families who love the outdoors? Join your AMC friends for an easy, kid-friendly urban trail walk in Van Cortlandt Park in the Bronx!

Van Cortlandt Park is a wonder with a mix of paved, gravel and packed-dirt trails on flat terrain as well as steep-ish hills. For this 2.5-3.0 miles walk, we’ll be kind to ourselves and look for trails with less elevation, some boulders for kids to climb, and early migration birds to view. It's a great chance for kids to run around outside after a long, cold winter indoors.

We’ll meet at 11:00 AM outside the public restrooms on the Broadway side of the Park, just north of the 242nd St #1 train station. We’ll talk briefly about the AMC and today’s route before heading off no later than 11:10 AM. The 242nd Street station on the 1 line is the closest subway. Buses that stop here are the Bx9, BxM3, B-L1, B-L2, and B-L3.

Wear sturdy shoes and weather appropriate clothing. It may be cold and windy or surprisingly mild and sunny. Remember water and snacks/lunch!

Register on activities.outdoors.org or RSVP on Meetup. All participants will be asked to sign an electronic waiver at activities.outdoors.org at the trailhead.
