Join us for a one-way day hike through the quiet woods of the Sterling Forest and the less traveled section of the Harriman State Park. We'll be following the Wildcat Mountain Trail through a series of shorter trails, including a short section of the Appalachian Trail, all the way to the Sapphire Trail in Harriman State Park. This route starts at the Tuxedo Park and Ride and end at the Harriman train station which are accessible via public transportation accessible from NYC. RSVP soon โ space is limited.
### ๐ฌ Important Notes
- This is a one-way hike โ we will not return to the starting point. Please plan your transportation before the event.
- Weโll maintain a moderate group pace with rest stops and a lunch break.
- Severe weather cancels the hike and we will reschedule.
- Please arrive on time โ weโll start shortly after everyone arrives to stay on schedule for the return train.
- Meeting location and updated trip information will be provided to registered participants via email.
### ๐ Transportation & Logistics
๐ค๏ธ Getting from and back to NYC :
- Coach Bus: From Port Authority to the Tuxedo Park and Ride
- Train: From Harriman train station to Penn Station with transfers. (aiming to catch the 4:10pm train)
๐ Parking:
- Parking is available at both Harriman Station and Tuxedo Park & Ride.
- Drivers will need to arrange carpooling or a shuttle among themselves, as this is a one-way hike.
### ๐งญ What to Bring
- Comfortable waterproof hiking boots
- 2+ liters of water and water filtration system (tablets, fiber filter, etc.)
- Lunch and snacks for the trail
- Weather-appropriate layers
- Trekking poles, microspikes (trails may be icy)
### ๐ Hike Highlights
๐ฅพ Distance: ~8.5 miles
โฐ๏ธ Elevation Gain: ~1,400 ft
๐ Duration: 5โ6 hours (including lunch and photo breaks)
๐ค๏ธ Difficulty: Moderate โ overall pace will be a bit quicker for some folks, steady uphill climbs, some rocky terrain, but great views. There will also be two road crossings that connect the trails.
