Join AMC’s Concrete to Trails Bus Trips
Discover wild places just beyond the city limits—no Uber, Lyft or train ticket required! Appalachian Mountain Club’s Concrete to Trails program offers weekly Saturday bus trips from New York City to stunning natural areas that are typically hard to reach without a vehicle. Whether you're a seasoned hiker or simply seeking fresh air and new views, these outings make it easy to escape the pavement and step into nature.
To begin the 2026 Concrete to Trails season we are going to Harriman State Park for a walk in the woods! We hope to have favorable seasonal and environmental conditions but we will likely encounter either late winter or early spring trail conditions... We will hike (as a group!) from AMC Reeves Meadow Visitor Center to Pine Meadow Lake (approximately 5.5 miles & 750 feet elevation gain) where we will enjoy a brief break (maybe in the snow OR maybe in the sun) before making our way downhill for departure back to New York City (in our bus!)
The activity is rated as moderate per AMC activity guidelines and you do not need to have experience hiking to join the group. This route will be on uneven terrain of varying surfaces and we will be exposed to the Earth's elements. Please be prepared to spend our time outside while being active with intermittent breaks. We take one 'proper' break on the trip at approximately the mid-way point of our time together. PLEASE BRING FOOTWEAR AND NECESSARY ACCESSORIES (ex. MicroSpikes) FOR WINTER CONDITIONS.
What to Bring:
- Sturdy hiking footwear
- Weather appropriate clothing
- 2+ liters of water
- Lunch and/or snacks
- Sun protection (clothing, hat, sunblock)
- Bug protection (lotion or spray)
Registration Details:
- Registration on the AMC website (activites.outdoors.org) is required for each participant.

Meeting Info:
- The group will meet at 8:00 AM and depart by 8:15 AM.
- Final meeting details (outside the George Washington Bridge Bus Station) will be sent to the email of all registered participants the day prior to the hike.
- We do not currently allow independent transportation to the trailhead. All hikers in the group will be on the bus both directions to/from NYC.
Cost:
- $5 Appalachian Mountain Club members
- $25 non-members
Refund Policy:
- For this trip, a refund is possible if you cancel online one week before the trip and your space can be filled.
