Meet interesting authors and experts who specialize in what interests you ... Getting Outdoors! When you're not quite ready to spend every moment outdoors during the winter and spring, we'll take you there vicariously with How To Talks and Demonstrations, and interesting Travelogues by speakers who will inspire you to do more of what you love.

Many of you know Derick Lugo from his previous online talks for the AMC. He is the host of the Unlikely Stories Podcast and author of The Unlikely Thru-Hiker, a humorous memoir chronicling his six-month thru-hike of the Appalachian Trail (published by the AMC!). His newly released second memoir, A Fabulous Thru-Hike, follows another humor-filled adventure—this time his five-month thru-hike of the Continental Divide Trail.

For this talk, Derick will share a funny, raw, and honest look at what it’s really like to spend five months living in the wilderness while thru-hiking the Continental Divide Trail from Mexico to Canada. Through photography, candid storytelling, and humor, he'll take audiences along for the ride—big climbs, bigger mishaps, physical exhaustion, mental grit, and the unforgettable cast of trail characters who become a temporary but deeply bonded family. Beyond the miles, this presentation explores vulnerability, resilience, identity, and what happens when everything familiar is stripped away.

Join us for refreshments and community at 5:30pm. The talk starts at 6:00pm, followed by book signing. Meet us at the Rivian Showroom on 461 West 14th Street in Manhattan.
